Instructional Assistant Philadelphia County Job Details:
Instructional assistants play a vital role in supporting both teachers and students in the classroom. In this position, you’ll take on a variety of responsibilities, including assisting with lesson activities, reinforcing instruction, and helping maintain a structured, engaging learning environment. Instructional assistants work closely with teachers to support classroom management and provide additional guidance to students who may need extra help.

You may also support students with special needs, by helping with clarifying instructions to improve understanding, supervise classroom or small group activities, and contribute to a positive, inclusive atmosphere where students feel encouraged to succeed. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to build meaningful relationships with students and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students
  • Attend to students’ physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs
  • Assist student in daily living activities and behavior management
  • Supervise student in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, and/or on field trips
  • Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans
  • Perform other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration

Instructional Assistant Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have experience in a relatable position
  • Must have or be willing to get fingerprinted by the Board of Education

Qualification Requirements:

  • High school diploma (required); or
  • 60 completed credits from an institution of higher learning (preferred); or
  • An Associates Degree or higher (preferred)
