Instructional Assistants (IAs), also known as paraprofessionals or paraeducators, are essential members of the classroom. They support lead teachers by providing small-group instruction, assisting with classroom management, and helping students with special needs or academic challenges succeed.

Working under the supervision of a teacher, instructional assistants may also prepare classroom materials, assist with grading, and help supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions throughout the school day. Instructional assistants play a vital role in creating an effective, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

  • Full-time, part-time, and per diem job assignments available
  • Schedule is generally Monday – Friday, no nights, weekends, or holidays
  • The hours or the assignment are standard school hours that will vary depending on placement

Typical Instructional Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assist the classroom teacher with implementing daily lesson plans and age-appropriate activities
  • Support children during instructional time, play, and group learning activities
  • Help maintain a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment
  • Provide assistance with hygiene needs as necessary (most children are potty trained, though some may require support)
  • Supervise children during transitions, meals, and outdoor play
  • Assist with classroom organization and preparation of learning materials

Qualification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (required); or
  • An Associate’s Degree or higher (preferred); or
  • Some completion of study at an institution of higher learning (preferred)
